lots of people have been asking about meets lately. if you're interested, simply reply to this journal and give a suggestion on where you would like a meet to be held.

On May 28, 2003, at 1:38am I ( =samurai007 ) created the *socal group as a result of discussing ideas with ~redtailk3 ( the co-creator ) on creating a group for artists in the Southern California area. We envisioned a virtual gathering place -- and online coffee shop-- for So.Cal. artists to share their art, ideas, meet and mingle with other artists, to provide a place where people are able to network with other artists in the same geographic region, and simply, a place for people to just have fun. Over time the *socal group has grown to approximately 200 members now, and such has evolved to where members have moved beyond the virtual world and into real life where a few meets have been, and will continue, to be held.

On that note, being social and meeting people is a primary goal of this group. Since I do not live my life on the internet and don’t get around to updating the *socal journal every day, it’s all up to you guys. It’s up to all of you who visit this page and read the comments and journals and go to the devmeets to keep the group alive and buzzing. Interacting with people is what this group is all about, so please, feel free to express yourself and tell us what you’re thinking, how you’re feeling, what you think of the Postal Service or Donnie Darko. Even the Governator. Pretty much anything goes! This is your chance to get people in Southern California to listen to what you have to say. So, feel free to post your thoughts on the main page or in reply to this journal, or you can even use the forum feature if you want. Also, if there are any artsy events that are going on, or maybe if you know of a neat little coffee shop that plays live music, feel free to post info about that. Remember, this group is made for you guys, where this is your hub to the local art scene with you being but one of many connections. So, keep watching, tell your friends, and stay tuned for what’s coming ahead!

If you're a Southern California resident and would like to join our group:

1) Simply leave us a note here *socal because =samurai007 is rather lazy and doesn't get around to checking the page much and would like to know when there are new members to add them and send a thank you note. So please send a note! You may not get membership if you don't send a note.

2) You will be added to the members list and we ask you to add the group to the devwatch, especially the journals, because the journal is how you'll be notified of any upcoming meets or events. It's the ONLY way you'll find out something's going on, unless you visit the page frequently and see what other members may have posted, which you should probably do also, since the journal may not always get updated.

3) You don't need to have any SoCal themed art, it's just somewhere to "group up" and talk about events, but art and photos are appreciated. If you have anything you'd like to submit to the *socal gallery, simply leave a note and tell us what you would like submitted.
